This apartment building is located in Oulu in northern Finland, only 150 km from the Arctic Circle. It is thereby a testimony to the fact that solar thermal can be feasible and economical also very far from the equator if only the collector efficiency is high enough.
The heat from the solar collectors is stored in a water tank located in the air conditioning room, which is located on the roof of this 5 floor building. When the temperature in the tank is high enough, water is pumped to the main water tank in the technical room at the ground level, to be used for the DHW production and space heating, either in the building or the cities district heating network.
